I bought the P90X workout program in about 2008, but when I tried it, I simply couldn't do it. It was too hard, and I quit within a week. After the 2009 and 2010 triathlon seasons, a healthier diet, and after losing about 12 pounds, I decided to give it another try. The program exceeded my expectations and I found it to be an excellent cross training program in addition to helping me to lose weight, gain muscle, and become stronger. It made me a better triathlete.
The P90X program got me results that had eluded me on previous attempts. I found it to be fun, challenging, and very motivating.
We worked out from 0600 to 0700 five days a week and ate a healthy high protein diet with lots of fruits, nuts, and veggies.
Unfortunately, it takes about three hours per week of similar exercise to maintain the P90X look...and I dropped off after a few months of maintenance. I kept the weight off, but sport specific training for the swim, bike and run portions of triathlon season replaced all of my cardio workouts. I kept the push ups, pull ups and abs work going.
I have since learned more about high intensity interval training and have added Tabata training to my regimen to keep from getting bored. Click on the blue links above to go to a site that explains these.
