About Dr. Ellis
Dr. Ellis is a psychiatrist specializing in the treatment of older patients with brain
illnesses associated with aging. He has seen firsthand the negative effects of
poor self care and inadequate exercise on the health and well-being of patients
with chronic, largely preventable, health problems. He was inspired by a local
training program for runners and walkers and has run the Crim ten-mile road
race every year since 2001. In doing so he has gone from an overweight couch
potato to an avid runner and athlete. He edited and compiled this collection of
Crim runner's stories hoping to share the benefits of road racing with others.

Dr. Ellis' interest in brain health and functional longevity are an extension of his
work with patients suffering from the consequences of dementia, hypertension,
diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis and other chronic health problems. Dr. Ellis
believes many of these conditions can be prevented or improved through
routine exercise. Investing in aerobic conditioning and physical fitness pays
dividends by extending your functional years.

Dr. Ellis lives in Flushing, Michigan with his wife, Shari, and his three daughters,
Alaina, Serena, and Mia. He works in Lansing , Michigan as the Medical Director
of an inpatient geriatric psychiatry unit at Ingham Regional Medical Center.
